With a beautiful beach, coastline, and its famous sight of ‘’Tamsui Sunset’’, Zhouzi Bay is located on the side of the ocean nearby Xingren Elementary School in Tamsui district. Ten years ago, the teachers and students in Xingren Elementary School followed Dr. Li Hua Chen’s instructions and developed a whole new community action course — ‘’Zhouzi Bay: The Reappearance of Splendor’’. In the process of community learning, exploring, and community actions, students not only were able to know the transition of Zhouzi Bay, but were also aware of the importance of improving coastal pollution and preventing sand from running off. The teachers and students gathered the people in Xingren Village, and together they initiated to use a method named ‘’sand-blocking’’ to prevent the sand from getting eroded by the tide. Also, they held a beach cleanup event every year to help the students understand that protecting our environment is something anyone can do.

In the past three years, as the new school-developed syllabus promoted, and the united nation ‘’Sustainable Development Goals of 2030’’ join in the course, Xingren Elementary School even designed an upgraded version of local groundwater resource — Xingren River Basin Course, allowing kids to proceed from life situation and explore campus water life and Xingren River. The courses included water safety, water health, water effect, water cycle, etc., bringing the kids to visit Xingren River, delve into and fix the water pollution problem of it. Furthermore, Xingren Elementary School also arranged a ‘’Zhouzi Bay Forum’’ in the senior course, letting the kids use the way of project-researching to share their point of view about protecting Xingren River and Zhouzi Bay’s water resources, also deeply discuss about the issue of hometown environment sustainable development.

Through the courses of water resources, Xingren Elementary School is hoping to make the environment education steadier, allowing the kids not only to have the ability to understand, clarify, and delve into the environment issues by using systems thinking, but also have the ability to put it into practice and rethink profoundly. As a result, they can handle both water resources issues and environmental issues in life efficiently, which brings us to the goal of using water resources more effectively, protecting our hometown, and last but not least, sustainable development.
